Lisa Horvath, Professional Counsellor, Chilliwack/Fort Saint John BC


Lisa Horvath is a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC), a Registered Clinical Counsellor, a member of the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA), a member of the British Columbia Clicinal Counsellors Association (BCACC), and served as a board member of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Kelowna BC.


Lisa obtained her undergraduate in Psychology at the University of the Fraser Valley and her Masters degree from Yorkville University. She has volunteered extensively with youth and families in a number of different social organizations including the Ann Davis Society, Big Brothers and Big Sister of the Fraser Valley and Restorative Justice. Experience During her studies Lisa focused on aspects of child development and leadership, while also spending a great deal of time working one to one with professors researching alternate behavioral strategies. Lisa has over 10 years of front line training and experience working with families in British Columbia in both outpatient and residential treatment settings.


Lisa has worked extensively with complex presenting problems including psychosis, attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, autism spectrum disorders, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, and mood/anxiety disorders. She recognizes the importance of uncovering strengths as well as areas of challenge, and works carefully to develop strategies designed to help realize potential and maximize success. Lisa comes from a solution focused, strength based, holistic and cognitive approach with the intention of identifying assets as opposed to focusing solely on deficits. She has worked extensively with both youth and family towards reunification and understands the importance of family dynamics.


Lisa uses a strengths based approach in her practice, moving away from pathology, focusing on growth to assist clients in achieving and maintaining closer attachments and a healthier more positive state of functioning. Lisa also counsels families and siblings of patients who have been diagnosed with Psychosis. She understands the devastating impact this illness can have in a family, and has devoted much of her time in providing support and teaching coping skills to this populace. She also offers interactive workshops and counseling for all caregivers.
